Willow Springs Lake is a jewel up on the Mogollon Rim just off highway 260 between Payson and Show Low.

Take the well signed road to Willow Springs off highway 260. Turn right on the first paved road you come to and proceed to the parking area. There are National Forest Service toilets and you will see a selection of picnic tables between the parking area and the lake. Walk down toward the lake and follow the lake shore to the right keeping the lake to your left side but keep an eye on the forest on the right for after a short while you will spot a small groove (about a dozen) of aspens standing about 200 feet from the lake shore. There are no others in the immediate vicinity and their white trunks stand out readily from the dark pine trees. Make your way to this little collection and look about. Across a small open area about 35 paces away (heading is about 340 degrees) is a tall ponderosa pine which is bifurcated at the top and there is an old stump amid some rust colored stones at it's base. The letterbox is concealed by the stones and stump at the base of the tree.

The total distance from the parking lot is about a 5 minute walk. If you find yourself at an inlet that extends west from the body of the lake, you have gone too far.
