Under the I-74 Bridge in Bettendorf at the end of Twelfth Street, find Leach Park. This park provides the city with a boat launching, river fishing, smoochin’ under the willow retreat. Cross the railroad tracks and turn immediately to your right into the parking lot. Park at the far end, behind the blue trimmed bathrooms.

Head to the west and up on top
Find the plaque, historic, not witty.
It speaks of founding Mexicans
Here in a “Holy City.”

Head towards the river to see Skipper skip,
McElhiney provides him a stone.
Twenty five steps down off the levy,
To the place where the willows moan.

Ten round pots, in summer a’ bloom,
A free boaters’ launch with plenty of room,
Three tamaracks, needles drop in the fall,
Venture upstream towards the bridge so tall.

A hundred bucks it’ll cost ya
If you try to take a dip.
Check out the artwork, metal,
Rusty, but still hip.

Use the Captain’s Wheel awhile
Let loose imagination
Pretend to steer the pier away
Stay right at your station.

Now head ‘neath the dwarfing bridge,
Green steel and drains for rain,
Find three in ground “drawer-pulls”
Red with rust and stain.

Look upstream, see a gaming boat?
Head towards it, then up on top
Turn your back on gambling,
Save your money (more to shop).

Read about a plane that crashes
Right into the river
Admire the Ginkgos on the shore
As the breeze sets them a quiver.

Skip the gazebo on the right,
But the kiosk, stop and peruse,
The north most pillar hides your prize,
A green box will amuse.
