These two letterboxes are definite drivebys. Restroom facilities are not available at either location. One of the locations has a site-specific stamp, while the other stamp is a carving of a subject Don wanted to carve, but we haven’t really found a good spot for it in over a year. You can be the judge if the stamp fits or not.

#1 Deadwood
From Florence drive east towards Eugene on Hwy 126, and in Mapleton turn onto Hwy 36 instead of heading toward Eugene. In approximately 10 miles turn north on Deadwood Creek Road and drive for another 5 miles until you can turn right onto Deadwood Loop Road. Drive for about one more mile or so (This is a loop road so just continue until you think you found the general location of the letterbox--- It will be apparent).
Climb over the guardrail nearest the 3 horizontal fence rails on the NW corner, and carefully climb under and find three horizontal lengthwise supports (note metal rods connected to these supports). Locate the letterbox behind the X made from 2x4s.

9/10/2009 We received a "could not find" report on #2. If you have a report either found or not found we would appreciate a note.

#2 Chicken
From Deadwood Creek Road drive east on Hwy 36 for 4.2 miles and turn right on Chickahominy Road (see there is a chick mentioned) which turns into Nelson Mountain Road. We didn’t observe a signpost at this road marking it, but the map we used indicated the road names. You won’t need to drive very far as your destination can be seen from Hwy 36.
Now the age-old question of “Why did the chicken cross the road?” is answered.
It was because he wanted to hide in the middle section of the end of the guardrail on the right as you approach. Yep, the one that has some stickery berry vines growing around it. Not to worry though, that is if you can see a camo shoelace in the end of the guardrail, just pull it and the box should come right out.
Please retie for the next finder.
Okay we realize this chicken stuff is a stretch, but what else were we going to plant the danged thing.
Now retrieval and replant could be a problem at either letterbox, so just take your camera with you and if people want to know what you are doing just tell them you want photos from every angle you can get to as you are building a replica in your front yard.

When researching our clues please be aware that when previous searchers list “ATTEMPTED” on the clue sheets it may reflect more on their abilities as finders than indicate whether the box is viable or not. We do monitor our clues and boxes pretty well and appreciate the notes written to us by those that find or attempt our letterboxes.

Please contact placer directly or through the LBNA chat list regarding status rather than unofficial databases. Up to date status can only be ascertained from placer as other information services will not have current data. The placer does not appreciate listing information about this letterbox on unauthorized information services.
