Please be sure to take an ink pad with you. We could not find any locally to put in the box. ________________________________________________
Take I-40 East out of Asheville. Take the Montreat exit, Exit 64 and take a left at the light onto Highway 9. Continue north on Highway 9 through Black Mountain. You'll know you've reached your destination when you come to the rock gate that marks the entrance to Montreat. Continue straight through the gate and Highway 9 will turn into Assembly Drive.
Stay on Assembly Drive, passing a softball field on your right. Immediately past the softball field, take a right on Texas Road. Wind around until you see the tennis courts on your left. The Bill Wilde Youth Center and a playground are beside the tennis courts.
1. Go onto the playground and find the larger playset with a red corkscrew pole.
2. Turn facing the leaning pine tree, about 45 degrees to your right.
3. Walk straight into the break in a thicket of rhodendron.
4. From the tall, thick tree on the left of the opening, walk 12 paces up the slope to the spot where six trunks of rhodendron come together. The Balloon Box is under rocks at the base of the six trunks.
