Falls of Lana

This past weekend I got a little letterboxing fever and planted 11 boxes and one Hitchhiker in about 24 hours. The area around Lake Dunmore is a place I have loved to see for thirty years and now felt some of it needed to be shared. The following letterboxes all were placed on August 18 and August 19, 2006:

Duck in the Headlights
Falls of Lana
Silver Lake (2)
Moosalamoo
Spirit in Nature
Robert Frost One
Robert Frost Two
Le Plessis Bourre’
Mr Frimble
Pirate Pete
Makishi Dancer
And the “Spiritual Center” hitch hiker

Take a look at a map for all of them, if you can, before you head out. Most will be close to either Route 73, Forest Road 32, Route 125 or Route 7. Some are quick, some quicker.

On Route 53, that goes by Lake Dunmore, Salisbury, is the Falls of Lana. A little down the road south of Branbury State Park is the pull off for both Silver Lake and the Falls. There actually two but use the black topped one. The trail is the government service road. There is a sign for the trail at the north end of the parking lot. 15 minute hike will get you to the water pipe that is coming off the mountain. Under pipe to the right is a rock that is spray painted with a white line. Left of that is a much bigger rock. Under the north east corner of that bigger rock is the Falls of Lana Letterbox.

To stamp in you might want to go west down the hill with the pipe, partly because a little ways down is an excellent look at the lower part of the fall and partly a great view of the lake. After this go up the service road about 50yards to the upper Falls. This trail is also the start for Rattlesnake point Letterbox and one of the starts for the three Silver Lake Letterboxes.
