Duck in the Headlights
6/26/2105 I found this today in excellent shape!

9/23/14 I have seen so much work being done up here over the last few years, Any one know if it is finally done? I do not live close but I will check Aug 2015 at this rate.

8/11/08-I just got an e-mail concerned about how wet the box is, since I can't get up there for awhile please give me a heads up of the condition-thanks!

This past weekend I got a little letterboxing fever and planted 11 boxes and one Hitchhiker in about 24 hours. The area around Lake Dunmore is a place I have loved to see for thirty years and now felt some of it needed to be shared. The following letterboxes all were placed on August 18 and August 19, 2006:

Duck in the Headlights
Falls of Lana
Silver Lake (3)
Moosalamoo
Spirit in Nature
Robert Frost One
Robert Frost Two
Le Plessis Bourre’
Mr Frimble
Pirate Pete
Makishi Dancer
And the “Spiritual Center” hitch hiker

Take a look at a map for all of them, if you can, before you head out. Most will be close to either Route 73, Forest Road 32, Route 125 or Route 7. Some are quick, some quicker.

Where is the Duck? He is in the Chittenden Brook Campground Area on route 73 in Chittenden, which is itself on FR 45.

If coming from Brandon go over the Brandon Gap and a couple of miles after the Long Trail the gate is on the right. If coming from Rochester take Route100 to Route 73 go east about 3 ½ miles on on your left will be the gate and sign.

The camp ground (which you will not get anywhere near) itself is closed from Labor Day to Memorial Day so that means that the gate is most likely closed and you have to hike up the road to get to the trail head (I think about .5 of a mile). There is a trail map at the gate with distance estimates for the trails, and how you might want to hike up to the pond (about 2 miles up).

The trail head is on the right (with parking), and marked with blue. You will hike to the first bridge on the trail, which will be about .25 of a mile. The whole hike to the box will be along the brook. Cross the first bridge. Take 30 steps up the trail. On left should be a two sister tree with a large 3 foot by two foot rock. Under back right side is the Duck in the Headlights Letterbox.
