Put the Universe Back Together, Moore State Park in Paxton
Clues: Easy
Time: About an hour to find all + stamping time
Path: Easy to Moderate, some up hill climbing. Wear good shoes
Although the stamps in this series are not hand carved, I think you will have fun on the search. There are many boxes placed here at Moore State Park, so be sure to get directions to others and make a day of it.
From Worcester: Rte 122 west to Paxton Center. From here,
take Rte. 31 south. The main entrance to the park is on the right about a mile or so from Paxton Center. PASS THIS entrance. Follow Rt31 down about a half mile to the next right, Black Hill Rd. This is a one way street. Take this right keep driving until you see a stone bridge. Do not drive over the bridge, park your car on the right side just before the bridge.
Box #1: “The Sun”
You will see a trail that goes up the side towards the waterfall. Walk up this path-- be careful! It's bumpy and rock and there is a steep drop on the left in certain spots. The river will be on the left (at the bottom) Follow this path until you reach the Artist Overlook. Look for the bench and the sign that describes the Artist’s Overlook. Standing in front of that sign, look at the tree to the right in front of you behind a smaller bush. Behind this tree, you will find “The Sun”” under a rock and some leaves. Be sure to reseal and conceal!
Box #2 “The Planets”
Take the path to the right, away from the falls. It winds uphill a bit and you will come to an intersection. Take a left here to bring you back in the direction of the falls. Coming around to the falls, look for two trees on the left side of the path. These trees are somewhat located on top of a stone wall. Facing these trees, the right one is larger (older) than the one to the left. There will be rocks around the base of these trees. In between the two trees, at the base of the younger tree (in between the two trees), the box is hidden, covered by a square shaped, sandy colored rock.
Box #3 “The Stars”
Continue up the path, over the bridge, out to the main paved road. Take a right onto the paved road and follow this up a bit. You will see a pond on the right, filled with lily pads. You will come to an intersection with a large over bridge straight ahead. You will be walking straight ahead, off the paved road, keeping the river/waterfall to the right of you . But don’t go running off! You need to go to the edge of the stone wall, and walk 8 or 9 paces up the path, and look to the right. You will see three rocks in the ground, in the middle of the bushes. Underneath the middle rock, you will find the box holding “The Stars”. I put a few twigs and leaves to conceal it better. Please replace and conceal well.
Box #4 “The Moon”
Back to the path, take a right to head towards the covered bridge. Walk up and over the bridge. Take a few minutes to relax and enjoy the view. This is a very special spot for our family. My love got down on one knee proposed to me here. Right after the bridge, take a right to walk through the path with bushes on both sides. This will take you back to the paved road. Walk back down the way you came. The house will be on the right. Keep walking on the paved road until the footbridge is on the left of you.; Don’t go over the bridge! Take a right here out into the grassy field. Look for an old faucet in the field, near the stone wall. Walk over to the faucet. Facing the faucet, with the stone wall in front of you, look for the tree at the very edge of the stone wall. Go to that tree and at the base, you will find “The Moon” hidden under a reddish rectangular rock, tucked in and concealed with a few smaller rocks.
Box #5 “The Clouds” MISSING
Go back to the paved road and take a right. This is a downhill path and the mill will be on your left. Very shortly, you will come to a fork where the paved road goes off to the right and there is a dirt path going to the left, down a steep, bumpy path. Take the left and be careful! This will bring you back down to your car. But don’t leave yet! Go back to where you parked your car and cross the street. Right next to the stone bridge is a steep trail leading down to a lower viewing area. Be very careful as it is bumpy and rocky and can be slippery. At the bottom, off the left you will see a wooden bench and a plaque. Go to the bench, relax and reflect. After a quick rest, go to the edge of the river and walk to the right, towards the big stone bridge. Lining the river is a few large rocks on the ground. Look for the flat square one, pointing out (like a triangle- but I know it‘s a square!). Stand on this rock, facing the river, then turn around. You will see a tree up a bit on the hill. Behind this tree is an old burnt stump. Right behind the regular tree, at the base, in between the stump and the tree, you will find “The Clouds” underneath a flat rock.
