Hike: ¼ mile RT, 30-foot gain
Stamp: Hand-carved
From Hatch, take SR 26 southwest just out of town and find the baseball field. On the hill above the park you will see a water tower that proudly announces, “Welcome to Hatch – Chile Capitol of the World.”
Put yourself in the middle of the world and go 35 paces at 12* from north. The box is on the east side of a yucca and creosote cluster. This area looks to be popular with bikers, so please re-hide well.
We sure hope this box is easier for you to find than it was for us to place! When we were up on the hill, the workers on the field below left the area and locked us in! We tried to get out by taking our big grandpa car on a little dirt road, but ended up stuck in the river! It was the first time we’ve ever had to call 9-1-1 on a letterboxing trip, but it probably won’t be the last…
