Beautiful Wolf Creek Pass is high in the San Juan Mountains, between Pagosa Springs and South Fork, Colorado. Drive to the top of the pass and stop at the pullout which features a marker for the Continental Divide. The information you find there, and a little common sense, will help you solve the clues that lead to the mountain’s real buried treasure…

Behind the sign are two trails heading out into the field. If Wolf Creek was named for:
An animal – take the trail on the left.
A person – take the trail on the right.

After a short distance, you will come to a fork in the trail. If Wolf Creek Pass tops out at:
10,850 feet – take the right fork.
13,850 feet – take the left fork.

In a few yards, the trail passes between two large rocks at ground level. If the area’s most valuable natural resource is:
Gold – go due east
Timber – go due west
Snow – you’re probably right, but pick one of the other two!

…uphill to a cluster of pines. In the middle is a 3 ft. tall stump with the rest of the tree lying next to it. The box is in a cranny of the tree, under a large rock.
