The year is 1850. Welcome to the Oregon Trail where anything is possible. Are you prepared for the hot conditions, the bugs and the many dangers? Sometimes you will have little water to drink, and not very much to eat. But it won't be all bad, there will be adventure along the way that you will share with your family and friends. So load up your wagon, and come along on the Oregon Trail.

You will be given four spots that you will need to go to in order to be fully equipped for the journey. You must visit all four.

Clue#1. Take old Hwy 36 east out of Hiawatha. Go to Raccoon Road. Turn north and go to the north boundary of the cemetery. Stand at the base of the Oregon Trail marker, face east and walk approximately 11 paces. In the yucca plant, you will find the first letterbox. ( While at the cemetery, take time to visit the graves of some very old Brown county residents. Of course if you were on the Oregon Trail they wouldn't be here.)

Clue#2. Head back to old Hwy 36 and travel West. At Plumtree Road, turn north. Drive approximately 1 3/4 miles. Look for the marker on the west side of the road. The letterbox is nearby.

Clue#3. Get back on old Hwy 36 and follow it until it connects with Hwy 73. 1 3/4 miles north of the intersection you will find a marker on the west side of the road.

Clue #4. Go south on Hwy 73 until you reach Miami Street. Go west on Miami to 6th Street. Take 6th Street north to Cheyenne. On the east side of the street you will find the marker. (The original trail went right through Hiawatha! In fact right through our backyard.) For other Oregon Trail markers, refer to the list in this last letterbox. Thank you for starting your trek with us. Good luck on the rest of your journey! We will look for your names at Register Cliff.
