The most famous of all such (effigy) mounds is The Great Serpent Mound in Adams County Ohio. 1,330 feet in length along its coils and averaging 3 feet in height. Also the park has a great vantage point for photographers from the tower overlooking the great Serpent.

The Ohio Historical Society will be collecting a vehicle parking fee that varies according to your particular vehicle.

Letterbox clues:
From the parking lot take the paved trail to the Granite type stone marker. The path will fork. You want to proceed to your left at a heading of 280º.. Walk around the tail of the Serpent until you come to the entrance of the " Ohio Brush Creek Trail." Ascend down the hill. At pole #1 take a heading of 180º leading you to sign post #5.
At the "Serpent Trail Sign " Take a heading of 340º This trail will loop around the serpent mound in a clockwise direction. Just before heading (north ) up the hill toward the viewing tower, and mound you will come to a water bar across the trail.
Standing on the water bar .Take a bearing of 40º .Across the trail. Toward the creek . In front of a 5 foot high stump. You will notice two logs laying across one another on the
ground. Look where the two logs intersect closest end to the creek. You will find
the Adams County Great Serpent letterbox.
You may continue up the hill to the parking lot, and Serpent Mound Museum.
