Here is a fun two part quest for you to try.
Either by train or car, make your way to the Malden Center T Stop (Orange Line).

Once there, look for a black three-sided monument (it looks sort of like a community posting board, but it's not) on the Commerical St. Side of the T-station. Standing at the black monument, look across Commercial Street at a 6 floor brick building. This is the City Hall. The entrance to the building will lead you to the other side, or you can take the stairs to the door's right, which will take you through a small brick park to Pleasant St. Follow this street until it intersects with Main St. (about four blocks).

Turn left and begin to walk towards a brown castle-like church. You will need to cross Main Street to start heading down Salem St. You are heading in the right direction if the Malden Public High School is on your right and the brown castle-like church is on your left. Keep walking until you get to Park St., turn left.

Walk to the Malden Public Library and go up to the Children's Library. Ask for the "Citizen Schools at Salemwood's 2006 Letterboxing Project." They should have a map to give to you that will guide you on the next leg of your journey. If they have run out of copies, you may copy one for 15 cents on the first floor.

The map was designed by my Letterboxing Apprenticeship students and is somewhat on the evocative side. Getting to your destination is not difficult, but finding the box may require a little patience.

Good luck!

Difficulty: Medium
Hiking Time: 1/2 hour to 1 hour
Hiking Difficulties: Two routes are listed to reach the letterboxing site, one is paved, the other is a steep walk up a hill that should probably not be attempted in inclement weather. In this case, ask the librarian for the best way into the "Waitts Mount Park."
