MISSING -- this box has been reported missing as of 10/18/06. It didn't last too long at that spot, so I guess I won't bother replacing it.

This letterbox is at the playground at Poet’s Corner in Arlington, MA.
(This is the 1st in an Arlington playground series we will be hiding.)

Take Rt. 2 to the Dow Street Exit. (From Rt. 2 West, the exit puts you off on the Arlington side of the road, from Rt. 2 East, you will have to go under the Rt. 2 overpass). Drive along the access road on the Arlington side of Rt. 2 (also called Concord Tpk. and also called Wadsworth Rd). Turn right onto Shelley Rd. Park alongside the playground near the corner of Shelley Rd. and Keats Rd.

Clue:

A fearsome dragon has been terrorizing the Kingdom of Poet’s Corner. Only the most loyal and the bravest of knights can rid the kingdom of this beast. King Shelley, Sir Keats and the Duke of Wadsworth request your services in defeating the dragon. You will have to be brave.

Carry with you your royal Compass and your Imagination.

Your quest begins on the tree-lined path. Your steed has run off, so you will have to walk. Start at the beginning of the path and follow it until you reach a place to rest. Sit and contemplate your task. Before you is a large domed metal cage. The king’s pet fire-breathing dragon lives here. Though she is friendly, her breath is shocking! Avoid being scorched by climbing to the top of her cage. Face the bench on which you were just sitting. Ahead of you (between the cage and the benches) is a set of magical steps. Ascend these stairs and before you will appear a bridge suspended over a wide lava moat. Cross the bridge - but be careful not to fall in! Once safely on the other side, turn to your right to enter the castle. Oh no! You turn too far to your right and you fall down the secret chute that deposits you outside the castle! Hurry! An ogre lives on this side of the castle! Quickly run under the green bridge to your left. Stop at the grass line (as a sinister sorcerer controls this area) and follow the line to your left until you see a small party of enchanted animals. Join the party if you’d like! You have a reason to - you have found your missing steed!!! What is your sapphire steed looking at? Follow his gaze past the benches to a low metal disk. Stand atop this magical disk and survey the wild forest before you. At 50 degrees, you will spy something that may have once encased Excalibur. It is surrounded by wildflowers and weeds. The Dragon has concealed himself behind it. Good Luck!

Please wait until the "coast is clear" before retrieving this box. This is a well-used playground.

This is our first letterbox. We hope you had fun! (we had a lot of fun creating it).
Please replace the box behind the rock so it is extremely well-hidden. This is a VERY well-used area.
