Start your adventure at Barnegat Light State Park in Barnegat Light, NJ at the Northern End of Long Beach Island. From Route 72, go over the Causeway Bridge leading to Long Beach Island. Take a left onto Long Beach Boulevard and follow all the way down to the State Park. You will go through the towns of Surf City, North Beach, Harvey Cedars, Loveladies then finally Barnegat light. Pull into the parking lot of the Barnegat Light House.
Start at the Massacre at Long Beach stone monument. Go down the cement path until you reach the Maritime Forest Trail opposite the Park Offices and restroom building. The path is on your right. Go down path. Go up the stairs all the way to the top of the path. Proceed on the sandy path. You will go down five steps. Keep following the path past all the beach heather. Soon you will come upon another set of stairs, go all the way to the bottom of theses steps and stop. Go to the right side of the stairs and go back up to the platform along the side of the stairs in the dirt and leaves! If it is not there check on the other side, it tends to move sometimes :) The box is under the platform. It is partially buried and the top is covered by sticks. Move the sticks and you will find the box. Please seal everything up and put box back into the hole then put sticks over the top. This is a heavily traveled area, so hide it well!!
If you have time, go up to the top of the lighthouse, the view is awesome!
