Offically, West End Park is a Moline Park, but it actually straddles the border of Moline and Rock Island. Little Susie can play on the swings in Moline and still see her big brother playing soccer in Rock Island.
You won't find the West End Park on Google maps though. The park was renamed after a Moline alderman and mayor who improved the park during his administration. (He also shares a last name with the American astronaut who performed man's first untethered spacewalk.)
Approach the park from 44th st in rock island and park near the soccer fields. walk south across the fields until the main entrance (two brick pillars) and the rest of the park appear to your right. Go to the sidewalk in front of the main entrance and follow it until you see stairs that do not meet with the sidewalk.
Follow those stairs up 17 set of three. Leave the cement stairs and follow the wooden starcase to it's end. Follow the left path 11 paces (around the corner and partly down the hill,) To your left is a tree with a V. The letterbox is hidden between the tree and the fence.
This is a short walk, but almost entirely uphill, so it feels longer. there is a nice view at the top that I hope makes it worth it. this is the first box I've placed and I would love to hear feedback.
