History of the Michigan Wolverine-There has never been a verified trapping of a wolverine within the state of Michigan. There are several theories as to how the mascot was arrived at. One concerned the trading of wolverine pelts in Sault St. Marie. Another was the gluttonous or "wolverine-like" appetites of the French who settled there in the 1700's. In 1924, the football coach, Yost, found a mounted wolverine from the Hudson Bay Company, but he wanted a live one. In 1927, he found 10 in Alaska and put them in the Detroit Zoo, and brought 2 to the stadium for games. After they became too large and ferocious, the practice was discontinued. In 1937, the Chevrolet Motor Company donated one, but it is unknown how long it lasted.

Clues:
The Wolverine is located in Warrenville Grove Forest Perserve. Take the path across the bridge, but pause and look at the beautiful DuPage River. Turn right after passing over the bridge. Pass the barriers on the path. 6 paces beyond the barriers, locate the large boulder on the LEFT. Walk onto the small path near the boulder. The Wolverine lies behind the 4th boulder (the one farthest from the path). (Be sure to look for Brutus, the Wolverines greatest enemy, in this same perserve)
