There once was a pirate ship which sailed the 7 seas is search of treasure. It left the port of Jolly Harbor in Antigua, in the Caribbean back in 1697 and sailed east to the Indian Ocean, then back through the Mediterranean stopping in Thira, Greece, and then sailed onto Menton, France, looting and pillaging from the locals, before heading East to the shores of Martha's Vineyard (then known as "Noepe" by the Wampanoags). Unfortunately the ship was damaged on the shoals and listed into port until it finally sunk off the shores of Nobnocket (now called Vineyard Haven).

The pirates who survived the shipwreck carried what they could salvage onto shore via Lake Tashmoo. Where did they hide their vast treasure? No one knows, but they left a small box of treasure in the woods, near the inlet, and I believe the clues are as follows:

-Start at the Tashmoo Overlook.
-Walk down the path which meanders down to the "haunted" brick waterworks building (which must have been ransacked by the fierce pirates, judging from its condition)
-Follow the muddy path on the starboard side of the small pond all the way to the herring run.
-then backtrack about 40 feet and head into the woods on a smaller path. Watch for poison ivy.
-Follow the path, passing a fallen tree, generally staying to portside, until you come across a 2nd fallen tree, and finally a third, a beautiful, stately white Birch. Inside the stump of this tree you will find your treasure. Enjoy!
