This box is about 1 minute from the parking lot.
From Laneville Road head up the mountain to the Dolly Sods Scenic Overlook. A brown forest service sign will have a picture on it at the overlook turn. The hiking trail leaves the south side of the parking lot.
Follow the trail. Before the last overlook there is a rock wall about 40" high where the trail curves to the right. Ascend the small grade (approx 1') on the trail and turn left (north). Follow the flat rocking backbone about 40' to the base of a red spruce. The spruce will be on your left and surrounded by small boulders. Turn your back to the view of the mountain range to the east. Reach under the spruce boughs on the right hand side and find the box up against a small boulder at the base of the tree.
Sit down and enjoy the view and discreetly open, being alert for possible muggles.
