ONE O’CLOCK, TWO O’CLOCK, THREE O’CLOCK ROCK….
Ever played Ghosts in the Graveyard at night with your friends? Well, there’s a ghost hidden in a graveyard that we hope you’ll find, but please play during the day because the cemetery closes at dusk.
Brooks Cemetery in Homer Glen is on the west side of Parker Road, just north of 151st Street. It’s an interesting place to visit because some of the gravestones are so old that the words engraved on them have been worn away by years of weather. But there are also current burial sites which may have visitors, so please remember to be respectful of your surroundings.
If you enter through the south gate (closest to 151st), on your right you’ll soon come to a mid-sized brown stone. The name on this stone is Arthur Stevenson (1832 - 1910).
Stand on the engraved side of this stone, facing north (the stone should be on your right). Take 30 steps north, toward the middle of the cemetery. You’ll pass a Reed gravestone and then come to the burial place of John Weir (Oct 10, 1836 – April 4, 1912).
Our little ghost in the graveyard is hidden on the left side of this stone, in the shrubbery. Please put it back along the side of the stone so that a grounds keeper doesn’t remove it.
Small box, no ink.
