Salisbury Township in Lehigh County is an excellent place to letterbox, as any bug will tell you. This box is located in F ranko F arm Recreation Area, one of many parks in the township. It's not far from Emmaus Ave., at the intersection of Honeysuckle Rd. and Black River Rd.

When you arrive at the park, you'll find a pond with a bridge leading to a gazebo. It's a lovely place to stand and reflect. Go there. Take your time. Enjoy it as much as you like. When you're ready, we'll begin our hike here.

From the center of the gazebo, take a bearing of 340*. You'll see a trail heading into the woods. Take that trail. You'll soon pass under some power lines.

When you meet some woodpeckers, go left.

Continue on, learning as much or as little as you'd like about tuliptrees and wild turkeys.

At your next choice of paths, make two consecutive lefts, to head under the power lines again. (If you learn about bluebirds, you missed your turn.)

The trail you're on will make a sharp left curve. As it curves, duck into a little rocky nook on the left. The largest rock in the nook has a seat-shaped cranny on it. Sit down, and look around. If you look due north, you may notice a suspicious pile of rocks almost on the edge of the nook. You might be interested to check out that pile.
