3/27/2007: temporarily out of action while we replace the stamp.

This box is a micro "stamp stash" dedicated to college football traditions at the Matfield Green Service Area as I-35 (turnpike) passes through the Flint Hills of Kansas. Check out the nice tribute to Knute Rockne in the travel stop next door. (Rockne died in a plane crash nearby.)

This box is a quick driveby for turnpike travelers. We'll periodically place a new stamp dedicated to another tradition - so drop by again and again to get the whole collection!

Current stamp (placed 8/25/2006): The Golden Hat. The Golden Hat trophy is awarded each October to the winner of the "Red River Showdown" between OU and Texas. The trophy started out bronze when it was created in 1941, but was redone in 1970 and came out gold.

Directions to Matfield Green service area:
This service area is about halfway between Emporia and El Dorado on I-35/Kansas Turnpike.

Directions to box:
Park beside the water tower in the circle drive. On the North side of the water tower across the driveway, there are three cedar trees in a row. The micro box is at the base of the tree on the right.
