These boxes were designed and planned as thank you gifts to some of the wonderful teachers Chile Boy enjoyed while at this school. We also gave each teacher a hand-carved signature stamp and blank logbook to start them off; Chile Boy designed and carved his 5th grade teacher's stamp -- hopefully you will see their stamps in these boxes!

Please keep in mind school hours when looking for these boxes; school dismisses shortly after 2:00. Of course, evenings, weekends, vacations etc would probably be best.

Enjoy, and remember to appreciate the teachers who made a difference in your life!

Park in the furthest lot from the entrance (or, alternatively, use the one by the playground if you'd like to use that when you finish!). Walk over to the pond across from the entrance to the school.
"Glencliff is fortunate to count among its resources the John F. Youngblood Wildlife Sanctuary. The school community has experienced nature through this resource. Our Wildlife Sanctuary, of course, has not always been there. It is the creation of the members of our school community. It includes nature trails for study, hiking, and cross-country skiing. There is also a nature-study pond which was created from a marsh."

School Daze -- Kindergarten

Start at the rock by the pond designating the John F. Youngblood Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary. Sit on the bench and admire the Keep Off Pond signs. When you’re ready to set out, face the pond and walk to your left until you come to a trail map. Passing the trail map, follow the tree line to the entrance of the Buttonwood Trail. Cross bridge and wood planks to tree stumps helping you through a swampy area. Enter woods and see blue blazes to mark the trail. Continue about 10 minutes on this trail until you come down a small hill and cross a bridge.

Directly across from the bridge is a long fallen tree. Follow it down to the right where you’ll see a hollow stump. Under a brick and some leaves, find School Daze #1. Please re-cover with brick and brush. Continue on the path, where you will quickly come to a Y. Follow it to the left, which will soon bring you out to the back of the soccer field.

School Daze -- Fourth Grade
Find the trail that goes into the woods almost directly behind the soccer goal.
A short way in, you’ll pass a series of interesting multi-trunked trees, then pass a somewhat muddy area (in spring) a few minutes later. Immediately past the muddy area, you’ll see a very large sycamore tree just off the trail to the left with a hole in its base. On the side of the tree facing away from the trail, find School Daze #2. Please rehide carefully. Turn around and retrace your steps back towards the field.

School Daze -- Second and Fifth Grades
When you are almost at the beginning of the path (before returning to the field), you’ll walk between 2 trees. Look into the woods on your right and find remnants of a very low stone wall. Walk off the path and follow these large stones down (perpendicular to the path) until you come to a break in the wall where there are 2 trees (almost a double-trunk). Underneath some more rocks to protect and hide, find School Daze #3. Please re-hide as well or better than you found it.

Retrace your steps along the wall back to the path (or cut through the bushes in front of you towards the field), and you’ve graduated!
