“LOVE”

All you need is LOVE! This stamp was made in recognition of the new Cirque Du Soleil show, “LOVE” showing in Las Vegas at the Mirage. We saw the show and highly recommend it, in fact, we LOVED it! We were unable to finding a spot to hide the box in Vegas, so, we decided to do something different and put it on top of LOVELAND PASS! So, get yourself up to LOVELAND PASS and find this box, we promise, you’ll LOVE the hand-carved stamp! It was at the Grand, Grand Lake Gathering in August ’06, so, you’ll see many stamps already in the journal, but, it’s now officially planted and awaiting visitors!

Directions to the box:

From Denver: I-70 to Loveland Pass exit. At the top of the pass is a small parking area to soak in the views and the start of some hiking trails. There is a sign on each side of the pass, one has “Atlantic/Pacific”; you want the one across the road that just says, “LOVELAND PASS”. Stand at the sign and look in the direction of the steps going up the hill to a fantastic view! There is a warning sign about how they use explosives during avalanche season. Go up the stairs. At the top you will see a trail that leads up the not too distant hillside. Walk down the trail at 190 degrees and it will immediately level off and then start to climb. Before climbing up the hill, you will see some low growing evergreens on the hill’s edge to your left with scattered rocks on the hillside. Your destination is that clump of evergreens. Once you reach them, you will see a large rock lodged in the ground, one perfect to sit on and take in the breath taking views! From this rock, walk 6 steps at 160 degrees towards the evergreens. Look for a small break in the evergreens. There are several, but, you should be standing at the first break as you ascend the hill. Look between this break and take 3 very small steps in the direction of the pass and the edge of the hill. BE CAREFUL! Look left under the overhang of the main clump of evergreens, you will see rocks protecting the box on the downside of the hill, BE CAREFUL! Don’t tumble down the hill! There is already a bit of snow there, but you can clearly see the rocks under the overhang of the clump of evergreens. Just be careful while retrieving the box and be sure to cover it up well when you return it, it needs to survive the winter! Please be sure there is a large rock on the downhill side of the box to keep it from sliding down the hill!

Hand-carved stamp and journal..

This is a very short hike, however, it is at nearly 12,000 feet, so be aware that it’s very windy at the top of the pass and the weather conditions can change quickly! Be prepared to have warm clothing to enjoy this spot and definitely, bring a camera! You’re at the top of the Rockies!
