Echo Lake Park, Watertown, Ct
This is a short, relatively easy hike but with many overs and unders along the way. Approximately 1/2 mile round trip. The park is also equipped with a toddler playground and many locations to cast a line or two. (haven't tried the fishin' yet myself)
Locate your way to Rt 63 in downtown Watertown near the intersection of Rt 6. Coming from the North take a left onto Echo Lake Rd, from the South take a right and follow for 1 mile until you come to Ice House Rd, take a right. Follow for nearly 1/2 mile and you will see the lake on your right, pull into the parking lot.
Begin by following the trail SW around the lake, keeping the lake on your right. Continue to follow the trail into the woods, this is where the many overs and unders begin. Continue past a house that is too small for you or I, but for one who can fly. At approximately 2.5 10/of a mile you will encounter a large boulder with a familiar symbol upon it. From here glance out at Echo Lake and try your luck at seeing where the Lake's name came from.
Take a few paces back to the back SW corner of this large boulder, from here trek NW at approximately 325 degrees for 55 paces, you will pass a tree of 3 on your right and a large rock formation. This will bring you to a huge oak of 2 growing on top of a rock. At this point look SE at 110 degrees, you will see 2 trees and 2 boulders leaning together protecting your treasure.
FYI- the trail does continue for a short while further, however it does not circle the lake, you must back track the way you came.
