UNDER CONSTRUCTION AS OF MAY 23, 2012......WILL BE UPDATED SOON!

NOTE: THE MISSING LETTERBOX HAS BEEN REPLACED AND ALL OF THE LETTERBOXES HAVE BEEN REFRESHED AS OF JUNE 7TH, 2008.

This is less than two miles of easy hiking.

Bring your own stamp pad and pen!
Please be discrete when finding and returning the letterboxes. Make sure other people do not see you!

Start by finding your way to Blue Jay Point County Park in Raleigh, NC at 3200 Pleasant Union Church Road 27614.

When you arrive, drive past the educational center on your left, go to the end, and park in the parking lot in front of the playground.

HIDDEN HUMMINGBIRD
Start walking on the sidewalk in front of the playground and go to the sandbox. Ride a duck! Walk 50 paces from the duck to the wooden shelter. Take the unpaved Laurel Loop Trail (follow the yellow dots). You are going to come to a fork in the trail. Follow the side where you can rest and have a picnic. You should still see yellow dots on the trees. The trail will slope downward towards the water. Continue going downhill. You should now see trees with yellow and white dots. When you come to the second major fork stay to the right (the fork after the small "foot traffic" path). Walk to the water and enjoy the beautiful view of Falls Lake! Now look for a 3-trunked tree. Careful, don't trip on the roots! Walk 6 paces up the trail from the tree and look to your right for the closest fallen tree. Your hummingbird awaits you near the base of the fallen tree.

CATCH A CARDINAL
Now keep going up the hill. Wanna continue? Go right. Wanna go home? Go left. You should still see yellow and white dots on the trees. From the bench, walk 23 paces. If you want to continue, you have to go by "foot only". You should now be on a white dot trail. Cross the narrow wooden bridge and continue walking. Now "Scott John Farrell" says it's time to have a seat and rest. While sitting, look straight ahead for a dead tree stump. Your cardinal awaits you in the stump.

BASHFUL BLUE JAY
Continue on the trail for your last stamp. When you come to the "T" in the path, take the trail opposite of the water. You should now be on a blue and white dot trail. When you come to the skinny "arched" tree over the path, continue on blue for the next clue. When you come to the paved road, turn left. While walking up the road, keep an eye out on your left for a wooden information sign with a baseball field/sometimes soccer field behind it. Follow the sidewalk. Turn right at the willow tree (this tree is sick and will come down sometime in summer of 2008 and a picnic table will be in its place). Don't worry, you are almost there! Look for a birdhouse with a "10" on it and follow the little path behind it. You will find your bashful blue jay in the "palm of the hand".

Congratulations! Hope you enjoyed the hunt!
