THIS LETTERBOX HAS BEEN REMOVED FOR MAINTENANCE. WILL BE REPLACED SPRING 2010. THANKS!

Clues for A FISH OUT OF WATER:

Begin at the parking lot for Lake Gardner Beach, off High Street, in Amesbury.(From the traffic circle in town on Rte. 150, turn right onto High Street. The entrance is on your right.)

Take the cement path past the restrooms, along the lake. Continue to the circle.

Go halfway around the circle, and continue on the dirt path.

Cross two wooden bridges.

At the “Y”, take the right fork, up a hill.

Come to the “Batchelder Park” sign.(Actually, the sign is now missing, but the sign posts are still there 9/23) With your back to the sign, take the path to the right, and down the hill.

Pass “Grandma’s Jalopy”.

At the next trail split, go left, down the hill.

Stop at “Grandpa’s Jalopy”, at the wheel closest to the trail.

Turn around. Go back the way you came 10 paces. On the left is a tree with four trunks. Look at its base for “A FISH OUT OF WATER”.

If you like, continue past “Grandpas’ Jalopy” for a few hundred feet to the trail’s end at the lake. Return to the parking lot the way you came (or explore some of the other trails!)

The terrain of this hike is easy, suitable for children, and under a mile round trip. Please rehide the letterbox carefully. Have fun!

There is quite a bit of poison ivy, so be careful!
