On April 12, 1945 a tornado dipped down in Antlers, killing 86 people and leaving 1,500 homeless. The tornado continued on a deadly track to the northeast. There is a historical marker by the railroad depot in Antlers that tells you more about this event.
Clues:
The Indian Nation Turnpike, US 271, Oklahoma 2 and Oklahoma 3 intersect in Antlers. Take state highway 3 into the town of Antlers (exit 16 on the Indian Nation Turnpike). Park at the historic depot and read about the tornado. Look just across the parking lot (opposite side from the highway) at see "Antlers Spring". Antlers was founded next to a good spring of water - marked by the local indians with a set of antlers to show that it was good water. Walk to the rock top to the spring and walk around behind the spring. In the middle of the top, the box can be found beneath a large rock (in the pile of rocks) with a smaller, smooth rock in front of it.
