Mosholatubbee was one of three Choctaw chiefs who signed early treaties with the US, including the Traty of Dancing Rabbit Creek in 1830 that provided for the removal of the Choctaws to Indian Territory. He moved with his people to a new home off the Fort Towson Road, north of Sugar Loaf Mountain, and died August 3, 1838. In his honor, the Choctaw Nation region from the Arkansas River to the Winding Stair Mountains was called Mosholatubbee District.
Clues:
Take state highway 1 (The Talimena Drive) east from Talihina to the Talimena State Park. Park at the Ouchita Trailhead. Walk past picnic tables and follow the trees painted BLUE. There was a letterbox laying on the ground by the sign that had been left there, but not posted on this website....so watch for it!
The trail meanders up a rise, and leads between 3 pines, (one marked blue). Boulders litter the path at this point. Behind the largest boulder on the left (at 330 degrees) there is a notch between the middle two rocks. the box is in the notch beneath pine needles.
