Wagon Train
Wagon Train Lake is a 315 acre lake located two miles east of Hickman, Nebraska. This State Recreation Area is known for its 746 acres of land, which provides habitat for mourning dove, bobwhite quail, pheasant, squirrel, cottontail, deer and waterfowl. For the fishing enthusiast, this lake provides year round fishing opportunities for walleye, largemouth bass, rock bass, northern pike, bluegill, muskellunge, tiger musky, carp, redear sunfish, channel catfish, and crappie. Wagon Train Lake has a boat ramp and five fishing piers - one that is handicapped accessible, and one of two dog training areas at the Salt Creek Project. Camping facilities at this site include 28 camp pads with electrical hook-ups, primitive campsites, a playground, three picnic areas and a swim beach. Amenities include drinking water, a dump station, and vault toilets. Wagon train has one boat ramp and allows boating under 5 mph. A State Park Permit is required for entry except in wildlife management areas.
Clues:
You have travel far to reach the settlement of Hickman. But you have not reach your destination. Saddle up! Move-um out. Hit the Hickman trail heading east. Your stop will be the east side of the lake. You will have to go around, so head south to Wagontrain trail. You will go east a bit and then turn north. Your entrance to the lake will be the last one, the area known as Three. All parties should park their wagons here along the trail and follow the little creek south. Ahead is a Nebraska state tree with 3 tall trunks. It unfortunately has nearly been done in by the rough growing conditions this land has to offer. But never fear, it can still hold what you are looking for.
