Go to Winstead Hill memorial off Hwy 31 near Mack Hatcher Pkwy. Walk up 12 cement stairs between signs. Sign on left says, "This plot of 9 acres..." and sign on the right says "The Franklin Chapter...". Continue up next 7 cement stairs with Missippi Memorial on your right. Continue up next 5 cement stairs to The Observation Post.
Overlook the city and map of Battle of Franklin at the top of the Observation Post. Title on left of tablet says, "Battle of" and title on right says, "Franklin". Turn in exact opposite direction and face woods behind the monument. Past the rock ledge, walk 8 paces up the path in the woods to a rock that acts as a step. Follow the path another 13 paces. Turn left and walk 5 steps off the path into the forest. Letterbox is hidden by one end of a woodpile flanked by two wooden stakes. It is covered with leaves and sticks.
