Boggans Oasis - Just a Bike Ride Series, Day 3

The climb out of Clarkston encompassed 3200 feet in elevation. This being the first major climb of many totaling 14,600 ft for the tour. After the steep climb there was a gradual climb that fooled the riders into thinking they were on flat ground. The slow pace and heavy peddles indicated otherwise. Every turn exposed the false top of the mountain ahead. They continued the long slow grind for 30 miles, followed by 10 miles of switch backs, then dropped 3000 feet to Boggan’s Oasis next to the Grande Ronde river. Boggan’s Oasis is a fisherman’s destination . . . and has home-made milk shakes!

The ride leaders provided the best food and lodging available at each night’s stop. However there were simply too many miles between towns here. This night there was no hot shower, soft bed or fine dining. The group pitched their tents on sand and gravel next to the river. After peddling 40 miles on a hot day the cool river water was SO refreshing.

As the sun slipped away the new couple talked and held hands in her tent. He retired to his tent and they each fell asleep to the sound of the gurgling river.

To read the continuing saga go to the clues for other boxes in the “Just a Bike Ride” Series.

Getting you close:
Park at Boggans Oasis. They are known for their great fishing expeditions and their real milk shakes. While in the café you may want to peruse the photo albums of proud fishermen with their beautiful catches.

While standing in the parking lot look across the Grande Ronde river. The rock formations look like giant fins sticking out of the hillside. Isn’t it incredible that they stay upright through all the weather changes?

To The Box:
Walk down to primitive campground below the store. Make your way upstream to the power poles. Continue down the rabbit trail of sorts. Find the large rock that looks like a sitting dog. Stand on the dog with your back to the water. Boggans Oasis is under the outcrop behind some rocks.

PLEASE rehide so box is not visible and well covered so animals don't get to it.

Hope you enjoyed the hunt. Since we don’t live in the area we can’t check on this box very often. We appreciate an update on it’s status.

Happy Trails!
