Tumalo Falls, falling 97 feet, is the first of many along Tumalo Creek. Easily accessible from Bend, the parking area is the starting point for hikes that take adventurers to Happy Valley, Shevlin Park, and many more. Access to the area by car is limited during winter months if there is snow. Skiers, snowshoers and winter hikers will find amazing scenery with wonders around every corner. If you have a day to spend, it's definitely worth taking time to hike further up the 24.2 trail to see the waterfalls and meadows beyond.

Cougars and bears can be found in this area, so be aware of your surroundings.

Driving Directions: From downtown Bend, take Galveston and continue west from the Phoenix Rising round-about on 14th and Galveston. Continue on Galveston (the name will change to Skyliner). At the 10 mile point the road turns to gravel as it crosses the creek. Continue on 2.4 miles to the parking area.

To the Box: First, take a minute to peek over the rock wall just past the restroom. The view is worth the short walk. The sign for Trail 24.2 is to your left. Head up the hill toward the main viewpoint over Tumalo Falls. Watch for the end of the fence to your left. A sign explains why only hikers are allowed any further on the trail. Leave your horse here with the dog and bicycle. As you wander up the trail, you'll see a cabin to the left across a meadow. Fallen logs will appear along the downhill side of the trail. At a break in the logs look downhill toward a flat rock with a decaying stump at its back. Here you will find the box at its base.

Once you've found our Tumalo Too box, continue on and look for the second Tumalo box beyond the upper viewpoint.

Please be sure to re-hide the box carefully. This area is used extensively by the OMSI science school and others.

Enjoy your adventure and please let us know if you found the box!
