Bartow is located approximately 38 miles east of Tampa, 55 miles southwest of Orlando and 15 miles west of Lake Wales. The cities of Bartow, Lakeland and Winter Haven form an equilateral triangle pointed downward with Bartow being the south “point”, Lakeland the west “point” and Winter Haven the east “point”. The city is located near the headwaters of the Peace River at Lake Hancock. The major roads which go through Bartow are U.S. Highway 17, U.S. Highway 98 and Florida State Road 60.

Bartow is a town rich in history and is the county seat for Polk County. The historic little town offers several little antique shops and many historic homes. Bartow is also known for the filming of several movies to include the 1991 movie “My Girl” and the movie “China Moon”.

After your tour of Historic Bartow, visit the Bartow Gazebo Park – Corner of Florida Avenue and Davidson Street, with parking offered on the Florida Avenue side of the park. This park is a ½-acre landscaped park with a gazebo for community events. A place to sit and reflect back into the past of this historic little town. There are many little shops, a museum, restaurants and a reflecting pool all within a few blocks.

However, if it’s the letterbox you seek to find;
Start at Gazebo Park - locate the island of ferns and standing there are two old friends of a different kind.

One is waving with many palms
and the other stands tall offering shade with his broad arms.

Look for something that is, but isn’t, resting in the middle,
after finding this just unscrew it and you’ll have solved this riddle.

Enjoy your boxing day in Bartow.
