Difficulty: Easy
Distance to Letterbox: 1/4 mile oneway
Status of Letterbox: Reported missing, probably flooded away.
The "Special Pals" Letterbox is located in Guadalupe River State Park, east of Boerne, Texas. This park is located on the beautiful Guadalupe River, and features swimming, hiking, picnicking, camping and canoeing. Also on Saturday's at 9am you can take a guided tour of Honey Creek State Natural Area from the park.
Directions:
From Boerne, go east on Hwy 46 for 13 miles. Turn left on Park Road 31 and go 3 miles to the enterance. Pay fee, then continue on main road all the way to the end. Park left of the bathroom building in the 1st parking lot (there is a playground to the right of the bathroom building).
To the Letterbox:
Walk to the end of the 1st parking lot (should be large blue trach dumpster). No go across the grass and picnic area toward the river to the large White and Red "warning" sign. Go down stairs to the left of this sign. Go left on rock path until you come to a chain across the path, and a circle roadway end. Walk right to the bottom of the circle roadway, and take grass path for 60 steps upstream (you will go down past a metal object on your left and then down the bank to the edge of the river). You should be at a large cypress tree on the edge of the river. This a great view!!! Now go 27 more steps upstream along the bank (you will pass another large cypress tree on your right). Stop. Go right up the hill for 10 steps. Locate the small tree with exposed roots at the top of the ledge. Box is under a rock pile in the roots. PLEASE COVER WELL WITH ROCKS WHEN DONE!!!!!!!!!!!
