PARK HAS BEEN CLOSED DUE TO FLOODING. WHEN ABLE I WILL PULL AND REFURBISH THIS BOX.
Chalk Ridge Falls Park, Bell County, is operated by the Army Corps of Engineers adjacent to Stillhouse Hollow Lake. It is near Salado and Belton, Texas. It is a "nature preserve" and as such, does not allow pets. Bring a compass.
I call this letterbox "Chalk Ridge Dragonfly" and it involves about a 15 minute walk each way on mostly level trails, some parts of trail/dam may not be appropriate for very small children (our 3 year old did fine with just a little help).
Directions:
From Hwy 190, take FM 1670 south for a few miles, crossing over Stillhouse Hollow Lake Dam (beautiful at sunset). Just past the Dam, turn left into the park.
From the parking lot, take the wide, marked "nature trail".Cross a wooden bridge with stairs and continue on the wider, main trail until it comes to a "T".Go right at the "T" and after a short distance you will meet up with the creek, which is crossed by a concrete dam with a gap in the middle. Cross this concrete dam (carefully).
Facing south, take a small trail, until you see a large log over the trail. Just before that log, to the east, take a small, rough, "deer trail". Go about 50 feet on this deer trail. You will see a rock beside this trail about 1 1/2 feet high and our letterbox is behind this rock , covered by smaller rocks. Be careful of snakes, poison ivy, etc.
Enjoy.
