Placed by BUBBA 6-PACK

When researching this area to plant a box I ran across several articles describing the work the City of Big Rapids did to restore the Muskegon River http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10364_27415-80310--,00.html. Although, it was fall in Michigan when we placed this box, I have to admit the scenery in the area is very nice and the trip well worth the effort. The search for this box should be easy with about a one and a half mile walk on mainly paved trails. We hope you enjoy looking for this box as much as we had planting it. For those of you interested in finding the “dam” letterbox, please follow these directions:

Go to the wonderful town of Big Rapids Michigan. You need to find a “recreational spot” along the river, in Big Rapids, named after Aristotle’s legendary drink. Find a place to park by the “castle” dedicated to children’s pursuits; you’ll know that you have arrived when you see “Paul Bunyan” and “Babe the Blue Ox”. Proceed to a circle of dedication, next to “father time” and then find the beginning of your path at the spot where the “lions” roar.

Your path will take you beyond the point of melodic winds and past the house that knowledge built. Now follow the path over the river and under the tree’s reach; enjoy the scenery as you’ll continue in a northerly direction on the path for some time. Stop at the path’s interruption, across the interruption look for a dedication in memory to “the ancestors.” Continue on the path to the west along the river, after a short while, look across the waterway for a tribute to the flowers, fish and river alike.

Stay on the path until you see the true “effects” of man. From this spot, take a reading of 75 degrees to “the remains” you must follow. Follow the remains until you find a perch for Humpty Dumpty between two multi-trunk trees. Proceed 16 paces at 90 degrees until you reach a three-fingered tree. From here, proceed 25 more paces at 160 degrees until you find a tree and its smaller twin. Continue four more steps, you’re so close…you’ll find the object of your search, here, between the fallen timbers, lying east to west.

Looking for a good place to eat? Try “Peppers” in downtown, Big Rapids. It’s a nice deli, that we enjoyed, with good soup and sandwiches, very family friendly.
