Location: Mission San Jose 6701 San Jose Drive, San Antonio, Texas. Admission is free. The mission is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Directions from downtown: Travel south on South St. Mary’s Street. Approximately one mile south of downtown, after passing beneath railroad tracks, South St. Mary’s becomes Roosevelt Ave. Continue on Roosevelt 4 miles, to a drive-in theater on your left, followed by a large stone structure: Mission San José. At the first stop light past the mission turn left onto New Napier Ave. Follow the signs into the parking lot.

History: San Antonio Missions National Historical Park consists of four Spanish frontier missions that were part of a colonization system stretching across the Spanish Southwest of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The park includes Missions San Jose, San Juan, Espada, Concepcion and other cultural sites and natural areas. Learn more at http://www.nps.gov/saan or call 210.932.1001.

Observations: The missions are a high traffic destination from local bicyclists to tourists such as myself. Also since this mission houses the visitor center there are a lot of volunteer guides and park personnel just waiting to share the history and culture of the area with you. You are really going to need to utilize your stealth skills retrieving this box without being caught. Also these are all working missions, meaning religious services are held on Sunday’s. You may wish to check their site to find out the times of these services in case you are interested in attending or would like to visit when there is less traffic.

Clues: After parking head to the entrance of the mission closest to the visitor center. Before entering the courtyard to the mission look to your left. Leave the paved path and start walking along the wall (as if heading to the main street). You will note that there are piles of rocks on the ground next to the wall evenly spaced. Locate the 4th pile from the mission entrance. Stand to the left of the pile at the base take 2 paces or 4 steps towards the wall. Located under the rocks approximately one foot from the edge you will find “Blazing Boot” hidden.

Should you note the box missing, it’s contents in bad repair or if you just want to say “Hi” please contact me at Blackvelvetrav@yahoo.com. Please note that I am from Idaho so any TLC that the box needs will require local assistance or intervention. Thank you & happy hunting!
