Location: Mission San Juan. Admission is free. The mission is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Directions from downtown: Travel south on South St. Mary’s Street. Approximately one mile south of downtown, after passing beneath railroad tracks, South St. Mary’s becomes Roosevelt Ave. Continue on Roosevelt. Click for a detailed map http://www.nps.gov/saan/planyourvisit/maps.htm or follow the brown colored National Park Service signs on Roosevelt.

History: San Antonio Missions National Historical Park consists of four Spanish frontier missions that were part of a colonization system stretching across the Spanish Southwest of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The park includes Missions San Jose, San Juan, Espada, Concepcion and other cultural sites and natural areas. Learn more at http://www.nps.gov/saan or call 210.932.1001. The box is not hidden at the actual mission (historical park) but off of a trail near the parking lot.

Observations: The missions are a high traffic destination from local bicyclists to tourists such as myself. In addition these are all working missions, meaning religious services are held on Sunday’s. You may wish to check their site to find out the times of these services in case you are interested in attending or would like to visit when there is less traffic.

Clues: This box is located near the Dude’s Duds: Branding Iron box so be sure to print both clues before heading out. Park in the parking lot. If you are facing the mission to the left at the end of the parking lot (west) is a nature trail. The trail is called “Yanaguana”. Take the path to the far left. Follow the path until you come to a wooden bridge and overlook area. Stop at the beginning of the bridge and look under the first support beam to the left where the concrete and wood meet. Hidden under some wood and rocks you will find “Dusty Boot” hiding.

Should you note the box missing, it’s contents in bad repair or if you just want to say “Hi” please contact me at Blackvelvetrav@yahoo.com. Please note that I am from Idaho so any TLC that the box needs will require local assistance or intervention. Thank you & happy hunting!
