This box has a hand carved stamp, bring your own stamp pad.

Take exit 19 (Hwy 82) off of I80 and head south towards Cambridge.

4.0 miles south of Interstate 80 is a historical marker telling of the town of Richmond (no longer in existance) being the first seat of justice in Henry County. A court house was built in 1838 and burned down a year later. The first circut court was held April 1, 1839.

This letterbox commemorates this little bit of history in Henry County Illinois.

The marker is just off the side of the road, easy for bad weather (except snow -- after plows go by it covers the rock with snow). The letterbox is hidden behind the rock . . . I placed a small stone on the letterbox, please do the same so that this box doesn't blow away (it gets quite windy on the prairies of Illinois).

Also, please be careful, there is enough room to pull off the road to read this historical marker and get the letterbox . . . but cars speed by you at 55 plus mph.
