This is a hybrid letterbox / Geocache. It can be done as a letterbox or a Geocache. For information on geocaching go to www.geocaching.com. Northwest Park is located at 145 Lang Road in Windsor, CT. There are many letterboxes and geocaches in this area, but no hybrid boxes. From the parking lot go to the nature center, outside you will find a map. From the nature center head North on the road past the animal barn. The road will turn East. Do not follow it at this point, continue North past the second barn. After the second barn, take a left and walk between the tree line and the barn. Just past the barn you will see blue bird house #37. Continue past blue bird box #37. You will see two groves of pine trees on your right. Soon after the 2nd grove look for a twin sister oak on the right. The box is hidden behind the sisters. If you get to the corner of the field, you've gone too far. Turn around and count 35 paces back towards the barn and look for the twin sister oak on your left. It is a camo tape covered lock n lock box. This is very common in geocaching but we never see it in letterboxes. It is a 1.5 mile round trip from parking area.
Note: A snow fence may be up during the Spring/Summer to protect the endangered nesting Grasshopper Sparrows. If so, find an alternate route around the field to the second barn and follow the above directions.
