From the parking lot off Pearl Street.
Terrain - easy (can be wet)
Clues - easy
Time - Less than an hour
Finding the entrance to Bare Meadow parking lot can be tricky. Off Rt 28 travel a quater mile on Pearl St. The entrance to Bare Meadow is on the left, just before a fire Hydrant.
From the trail sign take the trail that heads down hill to the right. At the first intersection bear left.
You will pass through two old stone walls. Take a left after passing through the second stone wall. On your right will be a pine forest with some quite tall and majestic pines. Notice how the pine needles (very acidic) and light blocking canopy have stopped almost all the other plants from growing.
Follow the trail straight through the stone wall and over a small wood bridge. The trail continues over a short boardwalk (the ground does get wet in this area). At the intersection take a left and head uphill.
As you leave the forest and enter the meadow you should spot the bench/table/??? ahead at the top of the slope. Continue up the hill until you reach it. Halfway up through the meadow you will pass an intersection (take a left to head directly back to the parking lot).
(Note: new structure has been added. It is a viewing platform)
I'm not sure what the structure is? Looks like you could use it for doing sit ups? If you have an idea leave a suggestion in the book.
From the bench/table/??? face North (look for the rock outcrop) and walk 25 paces. (There is a new viewing platform that was added in the last few years. it kind of blocks the direct line path). You will find the box hidden between the rocks underneath the oak and the two birch trees. Enjoy the hand carved stamp.
The second bear is close... Travel back down to the "intersection" in the middle of the meadow. Take left headed North along the trail into the woods. At the samll clearing bear right and continue down the gentle slope. At the remenant of a stone wall you are very close. Your goal is located behind the large two trunk oak tree.
You can continue on the main trail and you will circle back through the pine grove or retrace your steps back to the meadow and you can head straight back to the parking area.
