Directions to the Hockanum River Linear Trail: Take route 84 to exit 67. If you were on 84E take a left off the exit. If you were on 84W take a right off the exit. From here the directions are the same. Go straight at the next large intersection. This will be Grove St. Go to the end and at the light next to the factory on the left you will go straight and curve around the factory on rte 74. Go through the center of Rockville. Soon you will pass Rockville General Hospital on the left, keep going straight. You will go straight through the intersection with route 83 as well. At the next light (CVS is on the corner) take a right. Then take the first left onto Franklin St. Approx 0.6 miles on the right, after you pass the entrance to Maple Grove Club, you will see a pull off that will fit 2-3 cars by a orange double blazed tree. This is the trail entrance. Stay on the orange trail for this whole trip. It looks like they have looped the orange trail so stay to the left. It is an easy hike, about 30 minutes total and kid friendly. It may be real mucky in the spring summer months however. You will cross a bridge shortly after the trailhead. To the right will be Maple Grove Club. It is a large white building. Keep going. You may see the heron that lives in the marsh to your left. You will cross a second wooden bridge. Soon beyond that is a nice view to the left where you can walk close to the edge of the stream, just as an aside. Stay on the orange though after the view. You will come to a hill and shortly after this hill you will see a 3 sister tree on the right about six 10 year old steps from the trail. This isn't it but is very close to a four sister tree with one sister that has passed, also six 10 year old steps to the right of the trail. Nestled safely within the arms of the sisters is your prize.
I took a morning hike with my mom and nephews and we found this hiding spot together. I hope you enjoyed the hike and the wildlife.
