This Holiday Series is a series of 5 letterboxes that pay tribute to some wonderful January holidays that we all
enjoy. Some of these holidays are traditional holidays and some are not so traditional. All of these boxes
are located off of Hwy 84 between Rusk and Palestine.
I hope that you enjoy this look at some January holidays.
Box 1 of 5 is the New Year’s Baby box and is located in ID Fairchild State Forest. From Rusk, take Highway 84 West toward Palestine. After passing through Maydelle, keep an eye out for FM747 which will T into Highway 84 from the North. At the T, turn left onto a dirt road. You will see signs telling you you are in I.D. Fairchild and instructing you to stay on state property. Continue along the dirt road until you cross the Railroad tracks. Just past the tracks on the right will be an area with two picnic tables and a small pond visible from the road. Turn in and park there.
Once you park, you will need to follow the path that starts around to the back of the pond. Look to your
right for a woodpecker cafe. From this cafe, look SW and you will see a large tree that bends way over. The New Year’s Baby is located at the base of this tree under forest debris.
Be extremely cautious of snakes because when I placed this box I did see one curled up in the main pathway.
As always make sure to keep it hidden. ENJOY!!!
