H. Herpolsheimer Company was a wholesale/retail of dry goods & notions. The business established in 1880, by Mr. Henry Herpolsheimer. He was born in Prussia, November 28, 1844. He came to the United States in 1849 with his parents. He moved to Lincoln Nebraska in 1880 and his new department store opened in 1890 at S. 12th and N streets. It was considered one of the largest department stores west of the Missouri River. The building had a very ornate exterior and looked like a castle.
Clues:
Go to 3600 ‘O’ Street. Enter WYUKA Cemetery. You can pick up a map of the cemetery at the main office if you need it. Drive past the funeral home and offices. Take the road left of the Rudge Chapel. At the first intersection continue straight, the road will turn to the North. On the right is the section called Home of the Friendless. Continue on to the next section which is section 11. Park here. In the center of the section is the Hepolsheimer Monument. It is a beautiful white marble angel. It is also tour stop # 27 if you pick up a tour map. Stand and face the angel. Turn north. A little to the left or northwest is a the Leet monument. It is hidden from view by two over grown yew shrubs. Visit the south yew shrub, the box is sitting in its lower branches.
