Difficulty: Walk & Clues-easy
Stamp hand carved

You're right, there are no red maples in Tucson, until now that is. This Connecticut Yankee couldn't resist putting in a leaf from a tree I'm familiar with. I had to take a course in flora and fauna to write the clues. LOL
The box is hidden in Sabino Canyon Recreation Area a little northeast of Tucson. Take Tanque Verde Road east, then turn north on Sabino Canyon Road and follow it all the way to the entrance of Sabino Canyon Recreation Area on your right. There is a fee to park.
From the northeast side of the parking lot past the restrooms start your walk at the fieldstone entrance for the Bear Canyon Trailhead. You will take the road on the right and cross the bridge. Go east on the dirt Bear Canyon Trail, when it becomes paved take a right and continue on the paved road. When you see a sign on the left side of the road that doesn't face you go to it. It's a sign that says 15 miles an hour. From there take approximately 15 steps to an open area on your left. I'm short so the steps are not that big. Walk straight in and ahead of you, you will see a mesquite tree on your left. From there look to your right and you will see the following-a palo verde, a prickly pear and a barrel cactus. Behind the barrel cactus is a cholla, a pile of rocks with letterbox under them and behind the rocks is a ocotillo (living fence?) If you find that the plants are not what I named them, please let me know and I'll make changes to the clues. Please re-hide well as I will not be able to get there to check on this box. I am counting on the kindness of strangers to keep this box alive and well. Thank you all in advance. Anytime you are in the northeast we'd be happy to show you a real red maple!
