Note: These are not my clues, but they were up for adoption in the archives. I checked on them today and found box 1 but not box 2. --Brandy

About an hour. Easy hike for the first box. Several short steep climbs to get to the second box.

From Main Street in the north end of Cromwell (This is Route 99 which accessible from Route 91 in Rocky Hill or Route 9 Cromwell), turn East onto Golf Club Road towards The River Highlands/Tournament Players Club. At the stop sign at the end of the road, turn Right onto Field Road. Continue on Field Road, turning Right at the next stop sign. Just after crossing the Railroad track, turn Left into the parking lot for the State Park. Check out the map of the park to help get yourself oriented. There are many enjoyable trails here which you can take after finding your letterboxes.

Take the main trail (old dirt road) from the parking lot heading East. After passing a few old roads turning off to the Right, you will cross a small stream. Just a few feet after the stream, take a small trail to the Left and follow the stream. The trail will be blazed green for a while and then be yellow. Be sure to follow the stream along the way and enjoy the many bridges along the path that help keep your shoes dry. Ignore the trails that go away from the stream.

Eventually you will reach some picnic tables. When you do, turn around and go back about 75 paces. There will a large tree lying across the trail with a step notched out of it. You will find the Spider of Webs Letter Box under the tree trunk on the right side away from the stream.

To find the next box, continue following the stream all the way to the Connecticut River. If the water is not too high, you can checkout the shoreline. Just before getting to the river edge, there will be a very steep trail heading up the hill to the left (North). There are actually a few trails that go up the hill from this area – any of them will get you where you want to go. When you get to the top, look for the bench overlooking the river at the edge of the ridge. Take a rest here. Now follow the white blazed trail North along the river and look for a large pine tree on the right side of the trail. It is not very far.
When you find the pine tree, turn around. About 15 feet off there trail there is a 3’ tall stump. Look in the stump to find the Cricket Sounds Letter Box.

To get back to your car, continue heading north until you see a trail (unmarked) with deep ruts heading off to the Right. Take this trail to the bottom of the hill where it intersects with a main trail. Take a Right and follow the main trail this back to the stream crossing and then your car.
