UPDATE 15 SEP 2008. Once again, AM-2 is temporarily off the books. The box was planted in a thich stand of trees however, the university decided to go through teh area and remove/much all the underbrush, leaving just the amture tress. Well, I don't know what thay used but I found the plastic box shattered and scattered, the stamp was gone HOWEVER, the log book was in perfect condidtion, still sealed in it's ziplock, under about 4 inches of mulched underbrush. Go figure! Need time to recarve and replant. May be a bit as I no longer live in RI!

NEW CLUES AS OF 10 SEP 07!!!

The box is in a new location and the clues have a few new wrinkles. You're going to want to read them at home before starting out. Bring your own ink. Blue is appropriate.

This is the second box in my alma mater series. The first is further north in RI. The third . . . you’ll have to travel to Pittsburgh for that one. I encourage you to pick up a couple pieces of trash along the walk. Every place we letterbox could certainly use a little help. I’m sure there will be no shortage of cans to discard things in.

Your search begins at the parking lot of The House That Keaney Built. In 27 seasons of coaching basketball, the man never finished with a losing record! Take the sidewalk north, stopping at the benches to pay tribute to the URI ROTC grads who gave their lives for our Country. I was in ROTC @ URI and eventually the Army. Military paces are different than “steps.” But stay alert. I might use steps at some point.

Move to the outermost doors of the building where I roamed the court as the Rhody Ram from ’94 – ’98. Fifty feet behind these doors is where the hawk stopped flapping in 1998! Follow the sidewalk east.

Pass the dorm with the nice climate where I was an RA for a year. That first building on the right . . . yeah, that used to be a beach volley ball court! At the stop sign, turn so the freshmen are on your right, food is on your left. After the frosh home is my first dorm. No, it was not under its current designation when I lived there . . . not that there’s anything wrong with that. (Seinfeld anyone?) Top floor, third set of dorm windows from the left was where I lived.

Continuing on, enter the circle at 6, my second dorm is at 12, exit at 9. Head towards The Law. At the top of the hill, from the center of the circle, shoot an azimuth of 345 degrees. He’s been waiting for ewe. Go pat his horns.

Move to the corner of the building at 40 degrees and on east to Old Ben Butler. From his shattered barrel, sight in zero and head for the building of the bells. For many years, this was home to a student organization I was active in, the Student Alumni Association . . . Did you ever get a Survival Kit?

From the sign below the bell tower, strike a bearing of 1.396 radians to the building that for me, was far from what its name suggests.

Keeping with the nerds . . . you have a triangle with 2 known angles: 30 and 45 degrees. The remaining angle is the direction you shall set out in for about 38 paces. Then STOP!

From the light post, look to the distance at about 130 degrees. Do you see the steps? Walk towards “The Light.” As you walk, do you see the brick building on the left? I used to burn hamburgers and omelets there for all your favorite faculty members. Ok focus on “The Light” again.

At the top of the first steps, 4 squares forward to the change in cement. Military, Left FACE! Cuarenta y dos pasos a el arbol con cuatro piedras en tu izquierda. Yes, I took Spanish at URI too. : )

Now look into the woods to your left and find the 4-trunked tree just inside the woodline at 10 degrees. On the north side of the tree is a large boulder. Look to the base of the boulder on the west side, under the tree bark.

Do yourself a favor . . . while you’re near the Emporium, go see Dave at International Pockets and get yourself a chicken falafel combo . . . "How hot you want it boss? Light?medium?heavy? Lettuce?onions?tomato?pickles?hummus?tabouli? Alright, wrapitup! Pay when you finish! Here you go boss. Some baklava for you." Best damn eats around!

GO RHODY!
