Overlook Duck LbNA # 28353
|Placed Date||Jan 19 2007|
This letterbox is in Overlook park on the north side of Stillhouse Hollow Dam.
From Belton, take HWY 190 to the Stillhouse Hollow Dam exit. Go left over the bridge. The park is on the right hand side, before you cross the dam. They always have the gate closed to restrict vehicles, but you can park in front of it and walk in.
I don't think this park is heavily used, but twice when I was there, there was an occupied vehicle parked at the far end of the park. I was visible to the occupant for a good part of my wandering. I am thinking this may be a park ranger/maintenance person, since the vehicle was IN the park, so please be discrete and don't assume you are alone.
To the box: Take the paved path (on the left as you walk toward the pavilion and information plaque). Walk until you find the chin up bar on the left. Stand at it. Take a reading of 200 degrees and walk 93 steps at that bearing. If you are in the right place, you will be able to see the fence and to the left there is a small tree with a dead tree next to it that is uprooting. To the right there is a cedar tree. *(From the right spot, you can take a reading of 20 degrees to the chin up bar and 105 degrees to the drain pipe). The Overlook Duck is at the base of the cedar, between the fence and the tree, under rocks.
Please wedge back in place and recover well.
There is more park to explore if you care to keep walking.
(And more boxes here).
