Begin on the Cheshire end of the Farmington Greenway Canal line, located on Cornwall Ave. in Cheshire, CT. Enter trail from the parking lot, headed south towards Hamden. After crossing over the first wooden bridge, begin looking for the first orange warning side on the right side of the trail. At the sign take a 90 degree turn and walk up the hill. There will be 2 fallen trees. The first box is hidden within the fork of the tree that sits up higher and to the left of the first tree you come across. Return to the trail the same way you came in and continue south.
At the .31 mile marker, look into the woods on the right, aproximately 50 feet, for 2 rusted 55 gallon drums. Wind your way around the swamp area and look inside one of the drums for the second box. Return to the trail and continue on.
Pass the next park bench that sits on your left, then look for the man hole cover that lies next to a cleared path that goes left. At this point, TURN RIGHT off the pavement onto the lesser cleared trail. Follow this trail a short distance until it opens up to a small clearing. A large rock sits at a 30 degree angle from where you stand facing the clearing. Here lies box #3. Return to the main trail once you have found this box.
Continue on the trail and cross the next cross street. Look for the next mile marker on your left (it will be facing the opposite direction). From here count off 30 paces and turn right towards the stone wall. There is a slight depression in the wall and a tree with 3 attached trunks sits up against the other side of the stone wall. The 4th box is hidden here. Return the the trail to find the final box.
Cross over the next wooden bridge and look for the Herbert Cran memorial rock. Turn right onto the path and enter the nature preserve. The 5th and final box is located in the wood pile that sits to the right of the lower, wooden park bench.
This concludes the Happy Birthday Joyce letter box series. At this point you can continue on the trail south and soon you will happen upon the locks, or return to your starting point and end your journey.
