***Note: I have been notified that this box is MIA. I have not been able to check on it myself but would believe the reports. It would be worth your time to visit the preserve and see for yourself. The site is beautiful and there is another letterbox there.***

For information about the site see the website at www.oaklandnaturepreserve.com

From State Route 50, about 3 miles East of Clermont, take Deer Island Road. Travel alongside the West Orange Trail. Turn left on Machete, and veer left past the church and into the preserve.

There are benches and a portapotti in the parking lot. No food, pets, or wheels (bikes, skateboards, roller skates) on the trail. I would take water though!

Except for a short section of sidewalk near the beginning, the entire trail is on a boardwalk. It is 2/3 mile long. Suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. You will NOT have to leave the boardwalk to find the box, but someone in a wheelchair will need help retrieving it.

First, walk down to the end of the trail and enjoy the beautiful view of the lake. Look for wildlife along the way and at the viewing platform at the end. On the day we were there we saw osprey, moorhen, tern, egret, great blue heron, anhinga (sp?), purple galleon, bald eagle, and alligator. We even saw a screech owl in it's hollow in a tree!

After you have enjoyed the wildlife, start back to your car. On the way, look for the Bloom and Grow Garden Society "rest area". Face the sign. Check for muggles, then look up under the bench on your left. Between the leg of the bench closest to the trail and the bench itself you'll find your prize.

Please make sure to re-close bags well and replace carefully, making sure you aren't seen.
